Credit card processing allows the store front or a custom website to accept customer credit cards on-line. There are a number of processing services you can use, most notably:
All three allow your site to link to them where they capture all the required information on their secure server or allows your website to capture the information and transfer this to their secure server for processing. The processing service may require you to have an Internet Merchant Account with one of their banking facilities or require your bank to be part of a banking network for money transfers.
Besides the processing services, you need a merchant account where the monies will be transferred to. Of course, you have to understand the merchant will get their share of your transactions - a fixed amount per month plus a percentage of each transaction. The processing service also gets their share in either or both a fixed amount and a percentage of each transaction.
The credit card processors also can provide PC based software for Point-Of-Sale service where Credit Card Present transactions and Credit Card Not Present transactions can take place. In both cases, the transaction is processed as Not Present since the card's magnetic strip can not be read.
